HAPPY MOONDANCERS WRITE US!

  • I’m surprised and elated to be a finalist in the screenplay category at Moondance!  Hoping to travel to Boulder to take part in all your festival has to offer–great workshops and films, networking chances, and meeting lots of like-minded creatives together in one spot.  Thank you for being one of the most professionally-run festivals around.” ~ Jeana Grady, USA
  • I’m really happy to hear this good news and would like to thank you for all your concern. I really want to attend the event. By the way, you mentioned that you came to China last year. I would like to help you for your festival’s promotion in China later on. Currently, I’m a full time director under a contract in Beijing. I know industry professionals, film school colleagues and students, just tell me what kind of help you need. By the way, sharing my good news with you: since my short film CARRY ON won the top prize in Palm Springs, & now it’s eligible for submitting to the Academy for Oscar consideration!” ~ Li Yatao, China
  • Our director Yilmaz Erdogan is beyond honoured to have been chosen for the award. Unfortunately he has to be in Australia for the dubbing of “Water Diviner” and thus won’t be able to attend the screening and festival. He has asked me to express on his behalf that he’s very happy for the honour and that if his schedule opens up, by any chance, he will be able to attend the festival at the last minute. Rahman Altın, the film score composer of “The Butterfly’s Dream” will be there, however, on Yilmaz Erdogan’s and actor Mert Firat’s behalf.” ~ Dilaria Omur, Turkey
  • “We are so excited to be a part of your festival, thank you so much for all that you do! We are working hard (my co-director and I) to be there in person. We have devoted our last six years to this mission-infused piece and want to be able to celebrate it at Moondance, a festival that is so much in line with our own film’s cause (The Refugees of Shangri-la). We are looking at your program and…how cool it is.” ~ Doria Bramante & Markus Weinfurter, USA
  • “We are so touched, honored and thrilled to attend the film festival, and have our film, When I Was Young, I Said I Would Be Happy, screened at Moondance. Here’s to keeping hearts open and healed in our world. See you on the 26th!” ~ Lori Leyden

ON CREATIVE WRITING:

Ernest Heminngway writing in Cuba

Ernest Hemingway writing in Africa

People learn and absorb ideas and concepts through life experiences, narration, and through stories, not only through lessons in school or theoretical speeches or essays. Tales about characters, relatable, recognizable characters, who must confront life and overcome obstacles, setting off on a journey, having exploits and revelations, that provoke emotional reactions, are what are memorable and relatable to your reader or audience.

Great stories deal with the basic concepts of human nature; love and hate, desire and satisfaction, war and peace, and the resolution of these conflicting events and emotions.

For enlightenment on these values in great fiction writing, read stories and books by the Brothers Grimm, Aesop’s Fables, the Bible, the Ramayana, Celtic & Icelandic legends, the Iliad and the Odyssey, Rumi, Gurdjieff, the ancient Greek plays, and Shakespeare’s stage plays!
