Chosen by the United Nations to be their Honorary Ambassador
for the Empowerment of Girls & Women
She first appeared in 1941, with a golden lasso, her “weapon of truth”, her bullet-deflecting bracelets, and her invisible airplane. She is portrayed both as a crime fighter and as an instigator of social justice. A symbol of strong feminism and gender equality, she prefers peace and love to war and violence. Wonder Woman is a perfect example of an action character whose unique attributes were compelling back then, and are even more so now. Her biggest battle was with society’s unacceptable view of women. When the Moondance’s founder was a little girl, she determined to grow up to be like Wonder Woman, follow her non-violent goals, and make a difference in the world, while encouraging others to appreciate and respect the abilities of all women and girls.
